I will start at the beginning (that I can remember) of my Airstream travels.
In 1964, my parents decided (most likely my father) to take our Airstream to Alaska. This had to be the 1957 model. I don’t remember how long it took, I wasn’t even in school yet (4 years old) so it didn’t matter.
I remember people saying that only an Airstream would survive because they were riveted and their piping underneath was covered with an aluminum skin. I do remember a few things. I remember we had 9 flat tires. I remember scaring the hiccups out of my mother in McKinleyville, CA. I remember a hot springs in Alaska where the mosquitoes did not bother me but bit everyone else. I remember the sun being up at 2am in the morning.
It was quite an experience for the family and I would like to do it sometime and we will. My parents did it again in 1986 and there were virtually no problems this time. The local newspaper ran an article about it:
Looks GREAT Roger. Now I’ve got to add you to the blog roll and make a note in the next blog update.
Enjoy WordPress. By far I’ve found it to be A+ on the blogging software!
Hey Roger, great photo! That’s a real treasure, you standing in front of your Airstream at age 4 …
Thanks, Roger, for the note. We’ve made six trips now up the ALCAN, and I hope I’m good for another one or two. If so, it will be next summer. Maybe we can share notes further.
Bert
I found out about Bert and his blog through Rich Luhr’s blog. I have them listed in my blogroll. Go check them both out. I don’t know if I have mentioned my 1964 travels to Bert before. If so, I apologize for my senility.
